Outgoing National University of Singapore President, Professor Shih Choon Fong’s aim for year 2008 is “to take in a bigger, more diverse body of students this year.”

Judging by the turn out for the open house on Saturday, it appears that the professor is well on his way to achieving his goal for his final term of presidency at NUS.

The professor has confirmed his departure from NUS at the end of Dec 2008.

He will be taking up the position of Founding Presidency at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) at the beginning of next year.

Professor Shih was speaking to the ridge during the NUS Open House 2008, held on Mar. 15 and 16, at the Sports and Recreation Centre on the NUS Kent Ridge Campus.

When asked about his wish for NUS this year, the professor said that he hopes to see greater integration between intellectual learning and social learning on the campus.

“I hope to see NUS students given more opportunities to pursue their passions,” he added.

Throughout the tour, Prof Shih stopped by each of the booths and interacted with professors and student representatives of various faculties.
